1-Day Kyoto Tours and Routes: Explore Kyoto by Bike
The absolute best way to explore Kyoto is to tour by bicycle. Explore the city at your own pace with RBRJs recommended bike routes, or hire an RBRJ cyclist for a guided tour around some of the more scenic and quiet parts of the ancient capital.
Road Bike Rental Japan Kyoto is in a convenient location in the Fushimi neighborhood of the south end of Kyoto. The trip from Kyoto station on the Karasuma line of the Kyoto subway to Takeda station takes only 12 minutes, train and walk time included!
The shop is approximately a 10 minute bike rides from 2 major river routes, the Uji and Katsura rivers, which connect Kyoto to Nara, Osaka and Otsu (Lake Biwa). Our location makes for a great starting point to do 1-day loops around the Kansai area. Or, if you prefer to stay within Kyoto itself, you can ride 5 minutes North to jump on the Kamo River and head up the east side of Kyoto and see some of the most popular sites in all of Japan.
However, we recommend taking some of the lesser traveled paths to experience a more natural and local side of Kyoto often unable to be easily reached without a car or excessive use of public transport/taxis.
Explore the quiet side of Kyoto
Road Bike Rental Japan offers a half day tour that explores the quiet side of Kyoto, while still seeing some of the major site seeing spots in East Kyoto. Ride along the canals in Fushimi ward, enjoy the scenery along the Yamashina river, and then pass through East Kyoto (Nanzenji, HIgashiyama, Gion, Karasuma, and Fushimi Inari Taisha) before headed back to the shop along the Kamo river.
Use the river paths for smooth cycling
The Katsuragawa (Katsura River) and the Kamogawa (Kamo River) make for great pedestrian and cycling highways to get across town. These rivers are by far the best way to travel across Kyoto City without having to worry about traffic. Using these rivers you can travel between RBRJ Kyoto shop and places like Arashiyama or the Kyoto Botanical Gardens in less than 40 minutes.
